If you are a news lover then this article might excites you. Google has rolled out a new feature called Preferred Sources, that let you filter news in Top Stories with only the sources that you are going to choose.

After testing this feature for around 6 weeks, Google finally make it live in India and US.

On one hand where this feature helps readers to enjoy news with their preferred sources in Top Stories, while on other hand, this new feature will open doors for publishers to get more clicks on their website.

What is Preferred Sources?

When you search for a news in Google, you often see Top Stories boxes, which basically shows the recent news from different sources.

Earlier, it is upto Google to pick those sources and feed them to the readers, however, now readers can customize the sources of their choices.

This new feature brings more control over the search results for the user. With this, users can now add their favorite blog, news outlet, or magazine.

How to Add a Preferred Source?

  1. Just Search for a News Topic.
  2. Once the Top Stories Boxes Appear, Look onto the two cards icon with a star.
  3. Click on it and now enter the name or URL of your favorite websites and Reload the results to see the change in sources appearance.

Why this matters?

If your favorite source covers a story, it will appear more often in the Top Stories. Other websites will also appear but your preferred sources will always get the priority.

During testing this feature, Google find that 50 percent of users add four or more sources, which indicates users likes the granularity.

Benefits

Publishers can share a special link or a button promoting among their readers to add their website as a preferred source. Utilizing this feature properly helps the publishers to increase their number of returning users for the website.

Hence, last but not the least, Preferred sources is a win-win for both the readers and publishers. If you haven’t tried this feature yet, follow this link to add your preferred source and yes don’t forgot to add us.
