On October 15, Bing published a blog post revealing the support of “Data No-Snippet” HTML attribute in Bing Search Engine.

It means webmasters can now hide a particular section in HTML to appear in Bing Search or any other AI engines supported by Bing.

All you need to do is adding a particular section of HTML inside the <div data-nosnippet>sectiontohide</div> container.

Adding data nosnippet doesn’t hurt the ranking or indexing, instead it is a way to tell search engine not to show a particular data publicly.

Which means, search engine crawlers will read that data, understand it, considers it to decide the ranking but not showing it on search engine.

Data No-Snippet Usage

Below are the list of places where you can use the data nosnippet tag:

  • Paywall content
  • Sponsored content
  • Outdated content
  • Toxic content - for example, toxic reviews in the comment section etc.
  • AB Testing

So, with data no-snippet support, Bing has given more selective control to the webmasters in how their webpage appears on bing supported platforms. What’s your opinion about it, let me know in the comments down below.
